Middle School Assistant Principal

Overview
The Assistant Principal is a key member of the school leadership team, supporting student learning, well-being, and the effective day-to-day operation of the school. The successful candidate will be a positive, caring, compassionate, fair, and highly professional leader who places students at the center of decision-making and maintains high expectations for learning, behavior, and personal growth.

The Assistant Principal will lead collaboratively, build strong relationships with students, staff, and families, and demonstrate sound judgment, cultural awareness, active listening, and strong communication skills. They will balance warmth and compassion with accountability and use evidence, reflection, and data to strengthen practice and support continuous improvement, in alignment with the mission and values of Cayman International School.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field required.
• Valid teaching license and eligibility for a Cayman Islands Teaching License; administrative leadership certification required or to be completed by July 2027.
• Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience, including 3 years in middle school, and 3 years school leadership experience (Assistant/Deputy Principal or Principal).
• International school experience with strong knowledge of middle school curriculum, assessment, pedagogy, and adolescent development.
• Demonstrated expertise in safeguarding, child protection, positive behavior systems, and MTSS/data-informed student support.
• Experience with student scheduling, class-size management, substitute coverage, and digital systems for student behavior and communication.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with proven ability to engage and support parents and collaborate effectively with students, staff, and the wider school community.
• Proven record of effective leadership, professional ethics, confidentiality, and commitment to curricular, extracurricular, and school-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic leadership for a safe, positive, and inclusive school culture, overseeing student conduct, attendance, restorative practices, student support, transitions, and child protection.
• Lead curriculum, instruction, assessment, and teacher development, including faculty evaluation, regular classroom observations, coaching, professional development, and instructional improvement.
• Use data-informed practices to monitor academic, behavioral, attendance, and student wellbeing trends and coordinate appropriate interventions and support.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, including policies and procedures, student scheduling and placement, duty schedules, substitute coverage, school events, and Flex programming.
• Work collaboratively with counselors, teachers, administrators, and support teams to promote student engagement, wellbeing, academic success, and effective transitions.
• Lead and support school-wide student programs, assemblies, curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular initiatives, including student orientations and community events.
• Build strong partnerships with parents, students, staff, and the wider school community, providing clear and timely communication regarding student progress, attendance, behavior, academics, and school programs.
• Contribute to admissions, policy development, curriculum and organizational improvement, and whole-school planning and committees.
• Work closely with the Principal/Head of School and leadership team to ensure effective school operations and serve as Acting Principal when required.
• Support the school’s mission and strategic priorities and undertake additional leadership responsibilities as required.

Benefits: Employees receive a $500 annual wellness benefit and a $1,000 annual travel allowance. Additional support includes a telephone allowance of up to $350 annually paid in 12 equal monthly installments, professional development funding of up to $1,000 per year, and long-term disability coverage. Tuition benefits are also available, subject to eligibility and conditions.

Salary CI$ 71,400.00 – CI$ 80,400.00 Per annum depending on experience
