Massive Equipment Rental and Sales is seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our busy mechanics team.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years' relevant experience working with medium-sized earthmoving and construction equipment, with strong practical experience in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, mechanical repairs, and basic electrical systems.
The role involves servicing, maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles used in our rental and sales operations. The successful candidate must be safety-conscious, dependable, able to work independently, and willing to work as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections on heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, cooling systems, braking systems, and other mechanical components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and systematic inspection procedures.
• Carry out repairs and component replacements on earthmoving and construction equipment.
• Inspect equipment before and after rental to identify faults, damage, wear, and required maintenance.
• Prepare equipment for rental and return equipment to safe and operational condition following servicing or repairs.
• Conduct operational tests where required to confirm that repairs have been completed correctly and safely.
• Perform basic computerised diagnostics and use electronic/OBD diagnostic tools where applicable.
• Maintain accurate job cards and service records, including work performed, parts used, and time spent on repairs.
• Identify additional repairs or maintenance requirements and communicate these to the Supervisor.
• Maintain tools, workshop equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organised condition.
• Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures, including the safe handling and disposal of oils, fuels, coolants, and other hazardous materials.
• Assist with equipment recovery, breakdowns, and field repairs when required.
• Perform other related mechanical duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Minimum five years' experience working with medium-sized earthmoving, construction, or similar heavy equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
• Formal training from a recognised/certified technical institute in Heavy Duty Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or a related trade.
• Previous experience working with construction or rental equipment is required.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service information in English.
• Experience using computerised diagnostic equipment is an asset.
• Cayman Islands Group 3 Driver's Licence or higher (or equivalent).
• Clean police record; a police clearance issued within the last six months will be required.
• Must be 25 years of age or older due to company vehicle insurance requirements.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding conditions.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors and in conditions involving heat, noise, dust, fumes, and other workshop hazards.
• Willingness to work overtime, Sundays, and public holidays when required.
• Ability to follow instructions, work safely, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Own basic mechanic's hand tools.
