Harneys – Cayman Islands
Working closely with colleagues across the Banking and Finance legal team, the successful candidate will enjoy challenging and high-profile work for Harneys’ market-leading practice. This role represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced banking and finance lawyer to join our Cayman Islands office and make a significant contribution to our growing practice.
The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Advising clients on a wide range of legal matters, with a particular focus on fund finance (including subscription facilities, NAV facilities and hybrid structures), acquisition finance, real estate finance, asset finance, structured finance and secured lending
•Advising banks, alternative lenders, fund sponsors and financial institutions on bilateral and syndicated financing structures in domestic and cross-border transactions
•Engaging in business development activities, actively promoting the firm and seeking opportunities for new work and cross-selling across Harneys’ global network
•Working as part of a team, providing mentorship to junior lawyers, delivering internal training sessions, and collaborating closely with partners on client relationship development
•Participating in fund finance industry events and contributing to thought leadership and legal publications
EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in banking and finance legal matters and be looking for a long-term career with Harneys.
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
• A Master of Laws degree in international, European or business law from a recognised university
• A minimum of 7 years’ post-qualification experience in banking and finance law at a reputable international law firm
• Proven expertise in fund finance transactions, including subscription facilities, NAV facilities, acquisition finance and real estate finance
• Admitted as an Avocat à la Cour and registered on List I with the Luxembourg Bar Association (Ordre des Avocats du Barreau de Luxembourg)
• Excellent written communication and drafting skills in English, with fluency in French or another European language being highly desirable
• Outstanding technical legal skills, with demonstrated ability to advise on complex cross-border transactions and build strong client relationships
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues
• A strong academic record and commitment to professional development
This role requires significant attention to detail, professionalism, ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, and excellent organisational, prioritisation and communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues across Harneys’ global offices and adhere to the firm’s internal policies and procedures.
