FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVER / ASSISTANT COOK
Description of Job: The Food & Beverage Server / Assistant Cook is responsible for supporting both front-of-house and kitchen operations by preparing food in accordance with established recipes and service standards, while also delivering high-quality customer service to guests. This role requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards, and contribute positively to the overall guest experience.
Responsibilities
• Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with approved recipes, preparation sheets and plating guidelines.
• Assist with food preparation, including portioning, cutting, and assembling ingredients.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers and other cooking tools safely and correctly.
• Follow all opening, closing and shift duties assigned.
• Adhere strictly to all food safety, hygiene and quality standards.
• Ensure full compliance with dietary requirements and allergen procedures, taking all necessary steps to protect guest safety.
• Maintain proper portion control, particularly when preparing high-cost ingredients, in line with established guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area, including sanitizing surfaces, washing knives and chopping boards between products, and correctly storing all utensils and equipment.
• Assist fellow kitchen staff as required to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
• Welcome and engage guests in a courteous and professional manner.
• Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
• Make menu and beverage recommendations and answer guest questions.
• Provide high-quality table service to ensure excellent guest experience.
• Check identification to confirm legal age requirements for alcohol service.
• Handle cash, credit and debit card transactions accurately, balance the cash register and return correct change.
• Maintain cleanliness of service and dining areas, including clearing and resetting tables, washing glasses and utensils, and removing waste.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience in food service and/or kitchen operations.
• Additional training, certificates or hospitality-related qualifications will be an asset.
• Must meet the legal age requirement to serve food and alcohol.
• Availability of working evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Strong customer service orientation with a positive and professional attitude.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Basic mathematics and computer skills.
• Strong organizational, time management and multitasking abilities.
• Attention to detail and a working knowledge of basic food and beverage preparation tools
