PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Manage the day-to-day finance related activities for the Credit Union Headquarters and the Branch Offices including, but not limited to, accounts payables, receivables, and investments;
• Supervise a team of 3-6 employees;
• Ensure finance & accounting activities are in compliance with the IFRS, Co-operative Societies Law, Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, and Credit Union policies and procedures;
• Produce and analyze financial reports including all supporting documents by agreed deadlines, advising the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of any significant changes;
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of data extracted from Core banking system;
• Review monthly reconciliations and take actions to resolve any discrepancies on a timely basis, including Bank, fee income and sub ledger reconciliations;
• Review of daily and ad-hoc journal entries as required and ensure that all other accounting transactions are recorded in a timely manner;
• Provide technical support and coaching to junior staff members where required;
• Assist the CFO with the preparation of the Credit Union’s quarterly and annual budget, strategic plan, budget to actual variance analysis, and cashflow projections;
• Assist in drafting and amending relevant policies and procedures;
• Provide quarterly report for regulator in a timely manner;
• Provide required information to the External and Internal Auditors;
• Provide direction and planning of work for the Accounts Department;
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
The post holder must possess:
• A CPA or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management level finance or accounting position;
• Experience within the banking industry and /or Big 4 audit firms will be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budget, risk management, and cost control principles including generally accepted accounting principles;
• Knowledge of financial regulations; automated financial and accounting reporting systems;
• Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management;
• Knowledge and experience of preparation of consolidated Financial Accounts and Accounting for Construction contracts will be an added advantage;
SKILLS:
• Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial data;
• Detail and results oriented with keen attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
• Strong relationship management and leadership skills, recognizing the unique value, perspective, and ideas of individuals;
• Excellent communication, customer service, organizational, networking and interpersonal skills;
• Sound decision-making and judgement based on thorough analysis and experience;
• Ability to work on own initiative; able to handle multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to bring integrity and impartiality to all tasks and observe strict confidentiality;
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
