Director – Captives (Aon Cayman)
The Director role is a senior leadership position, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic management oversight and administration within Aon’s (re)insurance captive practice.
The Director will serve as the lead client relationship manager, for a portfolio of captive and reinsurance clients providing financial, regulatory, governance and operational leadership while ensuring exceptional client service and regulatory compliance, with a strong focus on reinsurance client relationships.
This is a visible, market facing leadership role, the successful candidate will have extensive and varied commercial reinsurance knowledge and experience and be expected to maintain an active market profile through targeted business development and regular engagement with commercial risk, reinsurance, alternative risk transfer stakeholders and markets. The successful candidate must be client-focused, with responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with client representatives, the wider Aon network, provider partners and regulatory agencies.
The role will include leading various client relationships, the majority of which will be commercial reinsurance type clients, leading the Aon Cayman client teams servicing these clients, acting as a connector and advocate for the client’s risk finance needs, developing and closing new business opportunities and helping build talent across Aon Cayman’s reinsurance captive practice.
The Director will also be a member of the Aon Cayman executive leadership team contributing to business development, overall leadership, and the achievement of growth and organizational objectives of Aon Cayman.
Core responsibilities to include:
Play a key role in Aon Cayman’s (re)insurance captive practice with accountability for client strategy, service quality, commercial growth and overall relationship management
Build and maintain senior relationships with key client contacts, brokers, reinsurers, service providers and internal Aon stakeholders, with a strong understanding of each client’s business, risk financing approach and strategy
Act as Aon Cayman relationship lead and senior contact for a portfolio of captive clients, the majority of which will be reinsurance captive clients (both non-life and life & annuity)
Provide commercial (re)insurance and risk finance guidance to clients, including oversight of program strategy, renewals, structural changes and regulatory considerations and have an understanding of potential tax considerations
Lead client service teams to deliver consistent, high-quality management services, with senior oversight, and issue resolution
Help drive Aon Cayman’s (re)insurance advisory strategy by bringing the right expertise to clients, prospects and market opportunities
Drive reinsurance captive business development and market engagement:
o Create and manage a focused business development plan
o Develop and close new business opportunities both within the Aon network and directly through market relationships
o Oversee the onboarding of new clients
o Maintain an active market profile by representing Aon Cayman at selected conferences and market forums, and industry panels, including reinsurance, captive, commercial risk, alternative capital and Insurtech focused events
Achieve financial targets for growth, revenue, margin and profitability
Contribute to Aon Cayman budgeting and forecasting through practical input on pipeline, client growth opportunities, pricing, retention risk and resourcing needs for the captive and commercial (re)insurance practice
Ensure successful board meeting execution by leading preparation and senior review of board materials, agendas and strategic priorities; effectively present and articulate complex business, financial and strategic information to Board members and senior stakeholders. Communicate key business insights and drive accountability for meeting outcomes and follow-up actions
Review and assist with ensuring client compliance and good standing with Aon compliance requirements and applicable local regulatory requirements, including supporting timely applications, filings, regulatory updates, escalation of issues and clear communication with clients and internal teams
Provide guidance and leadership to client service teams in development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure regulatory requirements from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, including internal control environments are adhered to
Lead the performance management and development of direct reports and client service team members through effective coaching, mentoring, constructive feedback, goal setting and career development planning to build high-performing and engaged teams to support organizational objectives.
About you
Candidates must possess a professional accounting or insurance qualification (ACII, CPCU, CA, CPA or ACCA or equivalent qualification), previous audit or risk management experience with a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the re/insurance industry. Possess an in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry with extensive captive management experience, with a focus on commercial market facing experience. Proven business development track record with experience originating, cultivating and converting new business opportunities, expanding client relationships, and executing strategic growth initiatives that deliver measurable results. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence, manage and motivate team members. Candidate must be capable of dealing with a broad range of clients, stakeholders and external bodies. This client facing position will require overtime and travel outside the Cayman Islands at short notice.
Salary and Benefits
Aon offers competitive compensation with a salary in the range of USD180,000-USD225,000. This is a full-time position. Standard office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm or 9 am to 5 pm. As a professional and managerial role, overtime may be required.
