Vessel Operations Manager.

Invites applications for the position of Vessel Operations Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall performance of cargo vessels that are chartered by the Company, including:

Duties:
1) working directly alongside the vessel owners,
2) managing the day-to-day commercial and operational performance of dry cargo vessels,
3) coordinating with the third-party technical manager, ensuring maintenance, compliance and operational issues are managed effectively,
4) coordinating with the company's crewing partners to oversee crew changes, travel arrangements, visas and related administration,
5) acting as the primary shore-based point of contact for the vessel, working closely with the Master and Technical Superintendent,
6) coordinating suppliers, port agents and loading operations in foreign ports of call,
7) coordinating and assisting in-house home port agency personnel to ensure efficient execution of home port calls, pilots, pilot boat, berthing, shifting, cargo operations, crew embarkation / disembarkation, deliveries to the ship (food, water, parts ,etc.),
8) clearing of cargo through the COLS system of Cayman Islands Customs & Border Control,
9) monitoring vessel schedules, voyage progress and operational performance,
10) reviewing port costs, bunker requirements and voyage expenses to support efficient vessel operations,
11) planning and coordinating bunkering and stem,
12) preparing calculations for inter-company ocean freight invoices,
13) working alongside the Company's appointed broker to review charter opportunities, charter parties and voyage execution when required,
14) reviewing and approving crew bonuses and other operational matters,
15) resolving operational issues and maintaining strong relationships with owners, agents, suppliers and service providers, and
16) other related duties as assigned by management.

This is not an entry level position. The Vessel Operations Manager plays a key role in the planning and execution of vessel operations, the design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and support of shipping processes and systems and the analysis of related data. This position reports to the Operations Manager and Vessel Owners Representative and coordinates and supervises the work of other managers, supervisors and affiliates.

Requirements:
We are seeking a motivated self-starter who enjoys the challenges of continuous improvement and brings meaningful and verifiable expertise to the Company. At a minimum, candidates must:
1) have:
a) a naval engineering or maritime operational or technical college Bachelor’s Degree,
b) a naval engineering or maritime operational or technical professional certification, and
c) at least ten years of operational or technical maritime experience, including:
i) at least five years of commercial and operational vessel management experience involving dry bulk, break bulk or general cargo vessels,
ii) at least five years of experience in coordinating with Masters, technical managers, agents and service providers, and
iii) at least five years of port operation experience, and
2) demonstrate:
a) thorough understanding of voyage execution, vessel scheduling and port operations,
b) strong commercial awareness of voyage costs and charter party fundamentals,
c) excellent organizational skills,
d) excellent communication skills in the English language, and
e) the ability to work independently within a small, collaborative business.

Regular operating hours are from 7:00AM to 4:00PM Monday through Friday and 7:00AM to 12:00PM Saturday (45 hours per week, average 195 hours per month), and 24/7 availability is required. All employees are subject to random testing for drugs and alcohol. The salary range for this position is KYD 1,538 to KYD 1,923 per week, plus pension and health benefits, three weeks of paid vacation.
