SENIOR LECTURER – NURSING.

OVERVIEW:

Senior Lecturer - Nursing is an advanced teaching position for experienced faculty who have devoted their professional development to pedagogy rather than conducting research. The Senior Lecturer will develop and teach courses at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI). While teaching will be the main activity of the Senior Lecturer, this individual will also be involved in various activities at both the Division and broader university level. The Senior Lecturer will be expected to regularly engage in professional development, to keep current on the accepted best practices for teaching within his or her area of expertise, and to mentor junior faculty and train them in those best practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of a master’s degree in nursing or a related field relevant to nursing practice;
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife;
• Qualification in nursing education, teaching and learning, or curriculum instruction;
• Current certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support;
• Minimum of five (5) years of nursing practice experience;
• Minimum of two (2) years of specialized nursing experience;
• Minimum of six (6) years of teaching experience at the tertiary level;
• Experience in curriculum design, development, and continuous improvement;
• Proven ability to design and deliver courses that meet University quality standards and academic regulations;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Student Information Systems (SIS), and Learning Management Systems (LMS);
• Ability to teach effectively in face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning environments;
• Ability to independently facilitate nursing clinical laboratory sessions and practical learning activities;
• Ability to effectively perform the combined responsibilities of lecturer, laboratory instructor, and clinical coordinator;
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills;

ACCOUNTABILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE:

• Designs, prepares, develops, and delivers nursing lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and clinical learning experiences;
• Contributes to undergraduate and graduate nursing programmes consistent with the University's mission and academic standards;
• Assesses student coursework, examinations, laboratory performance, and clinical competencies and maintains accurate academic records;
• Monitors student progress and implements strategies that support student success, retention, and professional development;
• Provides academic advising, mentoring, and guidance to students while maintaining regular office hours;
• Supervises student research projects, internships, clinical placements, practicum experiences, and other experiential learning activities;
• Undertakes the role of academic and clinical assessor for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students in accordance with Nursing Council requirements and UCCI standards;
• Ensures the quality of nursing courses and programmes in accordance with University and Curriculum Committee guidelines;
• Provides leadership and mentorship to junior faculty and supports their development in teaching best practices;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Programme Director, Dean, Provost, President, or their designee.

Compensation:

Employer-covered medical; co-contributory pension and annual leave.
