Job Overview
MJ & D Construction and Maintenance is seeking a skilled and dependable Mason / Steelman to support residential and commercial projects across Grand Cayman. The successful applicant will perform concrete work, block laying, steel reinforcement installation, and general masonry tasks to code.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Cut, bend, tie, and position steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and mesh according to structural blueprints and project specifications.
• Lay concrete blocks, bricks, and stones using mortar; construct structural walls, foundations, columns, and beams.
• Mix, pour, level, and finish concrete surfaces, footings, slabs, and lintels.
• Erect and dismantle temporary formwork, bracing, and scaffolding safely.
• Perform surface preparations, plastering, rendering, and patch repairs.
• Maintain clean, safe, and hazard-free work sites daily, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: 5+ years of practical masonry and steel-tying experience strongly recommended; candidates with fewer than 5 years of verified, relevant trade experience will also be considered.
• Proven ability to read and interpret basic structural drawings and measurement specs.
• Proficiency in operating trade tools, power equipment, and bar-bending/cutting equipment.
• Physical stamina to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), work at heights, and handle demanding outdoor site conditions in tropical heat.
• Strong reliability, punctuality, and ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
