INTERNATIONAL PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR – SPANISH MEDICAL INTERPRETER

POSITION SUMMARY
The International Patient Care Coordinator – Spanish Medical Interpreter is responsible for providing comprehensive coordination and support to international patients seeking medical care at Health City Cayman Islands, with particular responsibility for Spanish-speaking patients and referral partners.
The role serves as a key liaison between patients, families, physicians, clinical teams, insurers, government entities, referring physicians and other international partners throughout the patient journey.
In addition to patient coordination responsibilities, the successful candidate will provide accurate, confidential and culturally appropriate medical interpretation between Spanish-speaking patients and Health City Cayman Islands healthcare professionals. The position therefore requires professional-level fluency in both Spanish and English and a recognized Spanish Medical Interpreter Certification.
The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional communication, organization and customer service skills and be comfortable supporting patients who may be navigating complex or sensitive medical circumstances.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
International Patient Coordination
• Manage international patient enquiries from initial contact through consultation, treatment, discharge and post-treatment follow-up.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned international patients and their families, ensuring a seamless and compassionate patient experience.
• Gather and coordinate medical records, diagnostic reports, imaging and other clinical information required for physician review.
• Liaise with Health City physicians and clinical teams to facilitate medical reviews, recommendations and treatment plans.
• Coordinate quotations and estimated costs of care in conjunction with the appropriate clinical and finance teams.
• Schedule consultations, diagnostic investigations, procedures, surgeries and follow-up appointments.
• Ensure all international patients are appropriately registered and their information is accurately entered and maintained within Salesforce, Athma and other relevant Health City systems.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient communications, referrals, clinical coordination activities and follow-up requirements.
• Coordinate with insurers, assistance companies, government agencies and other third-party payers as required.
• Support the coordination of travel-related requirements, including appointment scheduling, accommodation information, transportation arrangements and other logistical needs where applicable.
• Provide patients and families with clear information regarding the process for receiving care at Health City Cayman Islands.
• Maintain regular communication with patients before arrival, during their stay and following discharge.
Spanish Medical Interpretation
• Provide professional medical interpretation between Spanish-speaking patients, family members and Health City physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
• Interpret accurately and impartially during consultations, assessments, diagnostic procedures, treatment discussions, discharge planning and other clinical interactions.
• Facilitate communication relating to medical histories, diagnoses, treatment recommendations, medications, procedures, risks, benefits and follow-up care.
• Ensure interpretation accurately reflects the meaning, tone and intent of the speaker without adding, omitting or altering information.
• Provide culturally appropriate communication support while maintaining professional boundaries and neutrality.
• Support Spanish-speaking patients in understanding administrative processes, appointment instructions and other aspects of their care journey.
• Translate appropriate patient-facing communications and administrative materials between Spanish and English when required and within the individual's professional scope.
• Recognize situations where interpretation may involve complex terminology or sensitive clinical discussions and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism.
• Comply with all applicable professional standards and ethical requirements governing medical interpretation.
Patient Experience & Relationship Management
• Deliver a consistently high standard of customer service to international patients, families and referral partners.
• Develop trusted relationships with patients and ensure that concerns or questions are addressed promptly.
• Identify potential issues that may affect the patient journey and escalate these appropriately.
• Work collaboratively with clinical, administrative, finance, marketing and international business development teams to ensure continuity of care.
• Support communication with Spanish-speaking referral physicians, partners and organizations across Latin America and other international markets where required.
• Assist with international patient outreach initiatives, physician engagement activities and other business development initiatives as appropriate.
Administration & Reporting
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and referral information.
• Track international enquiries, referrals, consultations, conversions and patient outcomes as required.
• Ensure all patient activity and communications are documented in Salesforce and relevant hospital information systems.
• Prepare reports relating to international patient activity when requested.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and organizational information.
• Comply with Health City Cayman Islands policies, procedures, privacy requirements and applicable healthcare regulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Spanish Medical Interpreter Certification is required. Candidates must hold a recognized professional certification or credential in Spanish medical/healthcare interpretation.
• Professional fluency in Spanish and English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
• Previous experience in healthcare, medical interpretation, international patient services, patient coordination, case management or a related healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
• Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, business administration, communications, international relations or another relevant discipline is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish.
• Strong understanding of confidentiality, patient privacy and professional ethics within a healthcare environment.
• Experience working with electronic medical records, CRM platforms or hospital information systems is advantageous.
• Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems is preferred.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify and resolve patient coordination issues.
• Ability to work collaboratively across clinical and non-clinical departments.
• Confidence communicating with physicians, insurers, government agencies, referral partners and senior stakeholders.
• Flexibility and willingness to respond to international patient requirements outside normal business hours when necessary.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
• Appointment to this position is contingent upon the candidate holding a current, recognized Spanish Medical Interpreter Certification.
• Evidence of certification must be provided as part of the recruitment and credential verification process. The employee will be responsible for maintaining any continuing education or renewal requirements necessary to keep the certification current throughout their employment.

• The International Patient Care Coordinator – Spanish Medical Interpreter will have access to confidential medical, personal and financial information and must maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
• The employee must adhere to Health City Cayman Islands' policies relating to patient privacy, information security, professional conduct and confidentiality, as well as recognized ethical standards for professional medical interpreters.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• This is a patient-facing position that requires regular interaction with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• The role may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate international patients, differing time zones, urgent enquiries and patient arrivals.
• Some local or international travel may be required in support of international patient services, referral relationships and business development activities.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Success in this role will be measured through the quality and timeliness of patient coordination, accuracy and professionalism of medical interpretation, patient and referral partner experience, completeness of patient documentation, responsiveness to enquiries, effective management of the international patient journey, and contribution to the continued growth of Health City Cayman Islands' international patient programme.
