Facilities Maintenance Technician.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain the preschool building, foster home building, and grounds in top condition to ensure their full and productive use.
• Carry out general repairs and maintenance to the property.
• Oversee and coordinate approved maintenance and renovation projects with third-party contractors.
• Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve facilities upkeep and maintenance issues.
• Ensure maintenance duties and projects are well organised and effectively communicated to NCVO staff.
• Assist NCVO staff with facilities management tasks as requested.
• Work independently and responsibly while adhering to all applicable health and safety procedures and regulations.
• Clean and/or wash removable air-conditioning filters and replace them when necessary.
• Assist with grounds maintenance, including planting and caring for shrubs, pruning, and use of a chainsaw and strimmer.
• Perform ad hoc supervisory duties and manage maintenance-related issues for others.
• Where appropriate, use vocational/trade knowledge to support and teach foster care residents who express an interest in learning practical, hands-on skills.
• Initiate and complete work orders.
• Assist with budget preparation and ensure approved budgets are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• 3–5 years of proven experience as a maintenance technician or in a related field.
• Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools, common appliances, and devices, including their safe use and the ability to demonstrate and teach safe use.
• Basic plumbing and electrical skills, with in-depth knowledge of general maintenance procedures.
• Experience with basic building repairs, pressure washing, and janitorial duties.
• Experience in building and grounds management; experience with school custodial services or equivalent is preferred.
• Knowledge of various maintenance areas and the ability to advise on the appropriate type of contractor for a particular job.
• Manual dexterity, strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Good physical condition and strength, with willingness to work overtime when required.
• High school diploma or equivalent. A certificate in building maintenance technology or a related field is an asset.
• Health and safety training and First Aid certification.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Basic understanding of English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Friendly and approachable attitude towards all persons.
• Self-driven, responsible, and able to demonstrate initiative.
• Willingness and ability to teach foster home residents basic maintenance skills if they express an interest.
• Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
