Position: MASON / CARPENTER / STEEL FIXER
1. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Company is seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Mason / Carpenter / Steel Fixer with practical experience in residential and commercial construction projects.
The successful candidate will perform hands-on masonry, carpentry, concrete formwork, reinforcing steel, and general construction duties in accordance with construction drawings, specifications, safety requirements, and instructions provided by the Supervisor or Project Lead.
This is a non-supervisory, hands-on construction position. The employee will work as part of a construction team and will not be responsible for supervising employees or managing construction projects.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
Assist with the construction, alteration, repair, and restoration of residential and commercial structures.
Lay concrete blocks, bricks, and other masonry materials in accordance with construction drawings and specifications.
Prepare and apply mortar, plaster, and other masonry materials.
Prepare, place, level, and finish concrete for floor slabs, foundations, walls, and other concrete structures.
Perform rough carpentry, including measuring, layout, cutting, framing, sheathing, and assembly of timber structures.
Perform basic finishing carpentry and installation work as required.
Construct, assemble, install, and remove concrete formwork.
Perform basic roofing structure and related carpentry work.
Measure, cut, bend, position, and tie reinforcing steel (rebar) for foundations, columns, beams, walls, slabs, and other concrete structures.
Assist with the preparation and installation of reinforcing steel in accordance with construction drawings and specifications.
Install drywall, insulation, shelving, cabinets, and fitted furniture where required for construction projects.
Use modern and traditional construction tools, equipment, and techniques safely and effectively.
Read and follow blueprints, construction drawings, designs, measurements, and work specifications.
Assist with determining required construction materials and quantities for assigned work.
Load, unload, carry, move, and properly store construction materials, tools, and equipment.
Prepare and maintain work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Identify and communicate safety hazards, unsafe conditions, material issues, or other concerns to the Supervisor.
Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other construction professionals as required.
Follow company policies, workplace rules, safety procedures, construction plans, and instructions.
Complete assigned work to the required quality standards and within established project timelines.
Maintain construction tools and equipment in good working condition.
Perform physically demanding construction work, including heavy lifting, bending, standing, climbing, kneeling, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Perform other related construction duties as assigned.
3. REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
Practical experience in masonry, carpentry, concrete formwork, reinforcing steel, or a combination of these areas.
Ability to read and follow blueprints, construction drawings, designs, measurements, and work specifications.
Proficiency in using modern and traditional construction tools, equipment, and techniques.
Ability to accurately measure, cut, assemble, install, and work with common construction materials.
Knowledge of basic construction methods, materials, and safe work practices.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting, for extended periods.
Ability to work safely outdoors and in varying or extreme weather conditions.
Ability to follow instructions, workplace rules, safety procedures, and project specifications.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a construction team.
Strong commitment to quality workmanship, reliability, attendance, and meeting project timelines.
Ability to communicate safety hazards, construction issues, and material requirements to the Supervisor.
Ability to work with limited supervision while following established instructions and project requirements.
4. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in residential and/or commercial construction is required.
Experience in masonry, carpentry, steel fixing, formwork, or related construction work is preferred.
Trade certification, apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or formal construction training in masonry, carpentry, steel fixing, construction, or a related trade is an asset but is not required where the candidate can demonstrate relevant practical experience.
Experience using common construction hand and power tools.
Ability to understand and follow basic construction drawings and specifications.
A valid driver's licence and the ability to drive in the Cayman Islands are considered an asset.
5. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the employee to perform physically demanding construction work, including:
Lifting and carrying construction materials and equipment.
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing for extended periods.
Working at heights where required and using appropriate safety equipment.
Working outdoors in hot, humid, rainy, and other varying weather conditions.
Performing repetitive manual tasks associated with masonry, carpentry, concrete, and reinforcing steel work.
6. REPORTING STRUCTURE
The employee will report to the Supervisor / Project Lead and will work as part of the Company's construction team.
The position is non-supervisory and does not include responsibility for hiring, directing, disciplining, or managing other employees, subcontractors, or construction projects.
7. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee is expected to:
Conduct all work in a professional, reliable, and safe manner.
Comply with company policies, workplace rules, health and safety requirements, and construction standards.
Follow instructions provided by the Supervisor or Project Lead.
Maintain good care of company tools, equipment, materials, and property.
Report damaged tools, equipment, unsafe conditions, or other workplace concerns promptly.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Perform other reasonable duties related to the construction role and operational requirements of the Company.
