Job Summary:
The Ideal candidate for this post will be experienced in Masonry and Carpentry skills, and will be responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining structures made from masonry materials (brick, block, stone, concrete) and wood-based components (framing, finishing, formwork). This dual-skilled role supports new construction, renovation, and maintenance projects, ensuring all work meets structural, safety, and quality standards.
Masonry Duties:
- Lay bricks, blocks, stones, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, walkways, and partitions
- Mix and apply mortar, concrete, and grout to correct consistency and specifications
- Read blueprints and technical drawings to determine layout, materials, and dimensions
- Build and repair chimneys, fireplaces, retaining walls, and other masonry structures
- Cut, shape, and finish masonry materials using hand and power tools (trowels, chisels, saws, grinders)
- Apply plaster, stucco, or other finishes to interior/exterior surfaces
- Install and level foundations, footings, and structural supports
- Perform waterproofing and joint sealing to prevent moisture damage
- Inspect and repair damaged or deteriorating masonry work
Carpentry Duties:
- Construct, install, and repair structures such as framing, door frames, staircases, roofing, and partitions
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plywood, and other materials using saws, drills, and other carpentry tools
- Build and install formwork/shuttering for concrete work
- Install fixtures such as cabinets, molding, doors, and windows
- Read and interpret construction plans and drawings for accurate carpentry work
- Perform finish carpentry work (trim, paneling, built-ins) to a high aesthetic standard
- Repair and maintain wooden structures, furniture, and fixtures as needed
- Ensure proper joinery techniques (nailing, screwing, gluing, dovetailing) for durability
General Responsibilities:
- Follow architectural plans, blueprints, and job specifications accurately
- Select appropriate materials and tools for each task
- Ensure all work complies with local building codes and safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and properly
- Estimate material quantities and costs for assigned projects
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other tradespeople
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on structures
- Adhere to project timelines and quality standards
