These positions require successful applicants to captain a passenger vessel with a capacity of 250–300 persons and take responsibility for its maintenance, safety and upkeep. Applicants must also have experience in heavy shipyard work, including sandblasting, spray painting and mechanical maintenance.
In addition to these duties, the Port Captain will oversee the other Captains, coordinate crew assignments and liaise with visiting ships each morning to organise operations.
Working hours vary considerably during both the winter cruise season and the summer refit season and may be long. Early starts are routine, and weekend and public holiday work is required.
A Merchant Marine and/or mechanical qualification would be advantageous; however, practical experience is essential. Applicants must be able to command a vessel and work without supervision. A minimum of five years’ proven experience in boat handling and shipyard work is required and will be assessed during the interview process.
