Role Overview
The High School Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction across multiple subject areas, supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
The role focuses on developing students’ critical thinking, independence, and readiness for further education or career pathways within a structured and inclusive learning environment. A strong background in special education is essential, with the ability to effectively support students with a wide range of learning needs through differentiation, interventions, and accommodations.
Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning
• Plan and deliver high-quality instruction across assigned subject areas
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with additional or complex needs
• Develop students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills
• Prepare students for college readiness, including study skills, academic writing, and exam preparation
• Use a range of teaching strategies, including inquiry-based and applied learning
• Assess, monitor, and report on student progress and development

Student Development
• Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development
• Implement appropriate accommodations and targeted intervention
• Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
• Maintain clear expectations and positive classroom management
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and wellbeing

Collaboration and School Contribution
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan curriculum and share best practices
• Work closely with the SENCo and support staff to ensure effective provision
• Participate in meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
• Contribute to extracurricular programs and whole-school events
• Build strong partnerships with families and the wider school community
Administration and Professional Duties
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, planning, assessment, and student progress
• Complete reports and required documentation in a timely manner
• Supervise students during break, lunch, and other assigned duties
• Provide class cover when required within agreed guidelines
• Manage and maintain classroom materials and resources

Personal Specifications

Qualifications and Experience
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant field
• Strong background in special education
• Experience working with students across a wide range of learning needs
• Experience teaching at the high school level, ideally across multiple subjects

Skills and Attributes
• Strong subject knowledge across multiple disciplines
• Ability to differentiate instruction and implement accommodations effectively
• Skilled in using data to inform teaching and interventions
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
