Position Overview: We are seeking a well experienced and highly responsible General Helper which will provide and contribute to the overall efficiency and success of our growing construction and interior fit-out projects.
Salary Range: KYD $9.00/ KYD $10.00/hour (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
Working Hours: Monday – Saturday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities:
• Execute physically demanding manual tasks, including digging trenches, lifting heavy loads, and transporting construction materials across job sites in a safe and efficient manner.
• Support the preparation and demobilization of work sites, including setup of temporary structures, protection of surfaces, and thorough post-task cleanup to maintain productivity and safety.
• Provide direct assistance to Carpenters and Cabinet Makers in material cutting, component assembly, fitting, and transportation of wood products and finished elements.
• Assist Tile Setters with the preparation and mixing of adhesives and grouts, tile cutting, precise installation, and application of grout to achieve high-quality finishes.
• Support Masons and Carpenters in cutting reinforcement materials, proportioning and mixing mortars and concrete, and erecting, aligning, and bracing formwork systems.
• Aid Masons in the laying and bonding of concrete hollow blocks (CHB), including mortar mixing, block placement, alignment, and joint finishing.
• Assist Carpenters with the measurement, cutting, and installation of drywall partitions, gypsum board, and suspended sheetrock ceiling systems.
• Safely operate basic hand tools, power tools, and light equipment (e.g., drills, saws, mixers) under direct supervision and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
• Follow precise verbal and written instructions from supervisors, tradespeople, and project leads while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Maintain a tidy, organized, and hazard-free work area by regularly removing debris, storing tools properly, and ensuring clear access routes.
• Strictly adhere to all occupational health and safety protocols, regulations, and site-specific procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Conduct comprehensive post-project cleanup, including decontamination of tools and equipment, reinstallation of removed fixtures, and restoration of furniture and furnishings.
• Carry out final quality checks on completed work areas to verify completeness and identify any deficiencies or oversights.
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels of consumables and tools, such as brushes, rollers, drop cloths, and masking materials.
• Clean tools, equipment, and work surfaces using appropriate solvents, detergents, water, and cleaning agents in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Requirements:
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in the construction industry or related manual labor roles.
• Excellent physical stamina and strength, with the ability to perform demanding manual tasks such as lifting, carrying, digging, and prolonged physical exertion in various environmental conditions.
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions, including heat, rain, and humidity.
• Basic familiarity with common construction tools, equipment, and materials (preferred; on-the-job training provided for qualified candidates).
• Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude toward task completion.
• Ability to understand and follow clear verbal and written instructions from supervisors and tradespeople while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
• Strict adherence to all occupational health and safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and site-specific safety regulations.
• Effective verbal communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and other trades.
• Possession of a valid Cayman Islands driver's license and reliable personal transportation (highly desirable to facilitate travel between job sites).
• Current legal authorization to work in the Cayman Islands
