Position Overview
A private household is seeking an exceptionally experienced, polished, and discreet Private Butler to provide the highest level of personalized service to the Principal, family members, and guests.
The successful candidate will have a proven career within ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) private households, luxury chalets, private estates, yachts, or similarly exacting hospitality environments, with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience and a demonstrated history of increasing responsibility.
This is a highly service-oriented position requiring exceptional attention to detail, anticipation of needs, impeccable presentation, absolute discretion, and the ability to operate seamlessly within a sophisticated private household team.

Key Responsibilities
Principal & Family Service
• Provide highly personalized, anticipatory service to the Principal, family members, and their guests.
• Develop a detailed understanding of individual preferences, routines, schedules, and service expectations.
• Manage all aspects of formal and informal dining service, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, afternoon tea, and private entertaining.
• Prepare and serve beverages, including coffee, tea, wines, spirits, and specialty drinks to an exceptional standard.
• Maintain an expert knowledge of the household's preferred wines, spirits, cigars, tableware, linens, and other service requirements.
• Assist with wardrobe, packing, unpacking, luggage management, and travel preparation where required.
• Coordinate guest arrivals and departures, ensuring a seamless and highly personalized experience.
• Provide discreet service during domestic and international travel when required.
Formal Dining & Entertaining
• Execute formal butler service to an exceptional professional standard.
• Set and dress dining tables according to the occasion, menu, and Principal's preferences.
• Coordinate with chefs, household staff, caterers, florists, event planners, and other service providers.
• Ensure impeccable timing and communication between kitchen and front-of-house service.
• Oversee the preparation of private dinners, receptions, cocktail parties, and other household events.
• Possess strong knowledge of wine service, including decanting, temperature, glassware, presentation, and pairing.
Household Operations
• Work collaboratively with the Estate Manager, House Manager, Head Butler, Chef, Housekeepers, Drivers, Security, and other household personnel.
• Maintain the highest standards of service, presentation, cleanliness, organization, and readiness throughout all guest and family areas.
• Assist with the establishment and maintenance of household service standards and operating procedures.
• Monitor inventories of wines, spirits, tableware, silver, glassware, linens, and other service-related items.
• Assist with purchasing, stock control, and the maintenance of household service inventories.
• Ensure service areas, dining rooms, bars, pantries, and entertaining spaces are consistently prepared to exacting standards.
Guest Experience
• Welcome and care for guests with warmth, discretion, and professionalism.
• Establish a genuine understanding of guest preferences while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Provide knowledgeable recommendations regarding dining, wines, spirits, local experiences, and household amenities.
• Anticipate guest requirements without being intrusive.
• Handle sensitive, confidential, or unusual requests with complete professionalism.
Team Leadership & Development
• Depending on the structure of the household, take responsibility for supervising and mentoring junior butlers and service staff.
• Lead by example and maintain consistently high standards of professional conduct and service.
• Participate in staff training, service briefings, and operational meetings.
• Support the House Manager or Estate Manager in maintaining consistent household standards.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and highly professional household culture.
Essential Requirements
Professional Experience
• Minimum 15 years of progressively increasing experience in Butlering, Chalet Hosting, Head of Services, Head Butler, House Manager, or comparable luxury service roles.
• This experience must have been gained substantially within UHNW private households, private estates, luxury chalets, yachts, or equivalent high-end environments.
• Demonstrable progression in duties, responsibilities, and leadership throughout the candidate's career.
• Proven experience providing service to UHNW principals, families, VIPs, and distinguished guests.
• Experience working within highly confidential environments where discretion and privacy are paramount.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while integrating effectively within a larger household team.
Professional Certifications
• Formal professional certification in Butlering from a recognized butler training institution.
• Formal certification in Wine and Spirits from a recognized professional institution.
• Additional qualifications in luxury hospitality, fine dining, sommelier studies, service management, or household management are highly desirable.
