Full-time, On-site Job ID:
Reports to: Clinic Manager with shared oversight by Staff Supervisor for operational responsibilities.
Full-time, 6 days per week, 45 hours per week, including weekends.
Animal Care & Recovery
Treat all animals humanely, ethically, and with compassion.
Provide daily care for animals recovering from surgery, illness, or medical procedures.
Feed animals according to veterinary instructions and prescribed dietary requirements.
Ensure animals have access to clean drinking water at all times.
Exercise recovery animals as directed, monitor animals closely and promptly report medical or behavioural changes.
Administer oral medications under the direction of the veterinary team.
Exercise, socialize, groom and bathe animals as directed.
Veterinary Clinic Support
Retrieve and return animals from kennels for examinations, treatments and surgeries.
Assist veterinary staff with supplies and materials during medical procedures.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain surgery suite, recovery areas, kennels, floors and bedding.
Clean, disinfect and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organized and safe clinical environment.
Inventory & Medical Supplies
Stock and organize medical supplies daily, and assist with daily inventory control and report low stock levels.
Retrieve medical supplies from pharmacies, veterinary clinics or other approved medical facilities as instructed and ensure treatment rooms remain fully stocked and organized.
Transportation & Logistics
Transport laboratory samples to external clinics or laboratories.
Assist with transportation of shelter animals to veterinary appointments or approved events.
Shelter Operations
Spot-clean animal and public areas throughout the day.
Clean kennels in the general shelter areas and assist with laundry and housekeeping.
Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment, and provide courteous customer service.
Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and the public, and support colleagues and perform other duties as assigned.
Complete administrative tasks as required.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum two years of experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, boarding facility or similar environment with at least one year supporting an animal clinic.
Minimum highschool education, certification in animal care preferred.
Strong knowledge of animal care including caring for animals post-surgery or undergoing medical treatment, and have a compassionate approach to animal welfare.
Ability to safely handle cats and dogs with varying temperaments and medical conditions.
Strong observation, communication and organizational skills, and ability to work independently and within a team.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
Valid driver's license and clean police clearance required, and over the age of 21 for vehicle insurance purposes.
No allergies preventing work with cats or dogs.
Available to work weekdays, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
Working Conditions
Frequent handling of cats and dogs with varying medical conditions, and exposure to cleaning chemicals, medications and biological materials.
Regular lifting, bending, standing, walking, and cleaning.
May encounter emotionally challenging situations including euthanasia and critically ill animals.
Occasional overtime work may be required.
Requirements
Experience: 2-3 years in animal care in a boarding environment, including clinic support
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Certificate in animal care preferred.
Documents Required: Police Clearance Certificate and Valid Driver's License
